Continuing with the leadership project for UIC Barcelona nursing degree, the first-year students have gone to “La Granja”, a school center for the teaching of emotions. It is about the student experiencing first-hand a teaching program to help him reflect on her attitude from emotion and with the help of a natural environment, taking advantage of a format of experiential activities.
Students have been able to train in the following activities:
– Leadership with the horse, the animal can show the type of leadership that the student exercises and can help him understand the meaning and mission of self-leadership, in addition to practicing mentoring and feeling in his own skin the benefits of guiding the team.
– The mission, an adventure circuit with different challenges to understand the necessary skills to work as a team: positive communication, active listening, coordination and leadership.
– To guide and be guided, eliminating the sense of sight, the one who guides has to be able to lead his partner through a whole circuit full of obstacles.
Patience, trust, active listening, empathy and communication will be the main tools to reach the goal.
Using participatory teaching methodologies accompanied by reflection and direct feedback on what happened, help the student to understand and allow him or her to deduce concepts and/or emotions from giving meaning to the lived experience. In this way you can guide your behavior to new situations. Participation in this center is a true accelerator of experiences that fills our students’ backpacks to continue working with them in the grade.
