The third chapter of the Decide Chair podcast has served to present UIC Barcelona Nursing Leadership Commission. This committee coordinates the project focused on nursing leadership that, for four years, has introduced ew teaching methodologies and participatory activities n the subjects of the Degree that seek to develop the skills of students in this area.
The Commission is made up of professors Dr Albert Gallart and Dr Encarna Rodríguez, deputy directors of the Department of Nursing, and professor Dr Marisa Martín, coordinator of the first year and of the double degree in Nursing and Psychology.
In this new chapter of the Decide Chair, podcast, the members of the Commission explain what the project consists of and talk about the good results they are having so far. “Ultimately —explains Gallart— it is about applying the parameters of any organisation to the work of a nurse: strategic planning, the one that tries to get ahead of time, evaluates the characteristics of the people and those of the organisation itself and, at the same time, time, the features of the exterior. That is, what is known as conducting a SWOT”.
In fact, nursing leadership is a topic that, as they explain, was raised long before the start of the project itself: What characteristics should a nurse have now and in the future? “Commitment, organization, knowing how to develop ideas, proactivity, assertiveness, focus on results —continues Professor Gallart—; but that, at the same time, 365 days, for 24 hours, leads the attention given to the person, bringing together, ordering, managing the members of the entire interdisciplinary team”.
In the four years that it has been implemented, the students are seeing “the need and usefulness of this project —says Professor Marisa Martín—; especially with regard to teamwork, one of the key dimensions in his future professional development”. “In fact —continues Albert Gallart— we have verified how it is in this aspect where they grow the most, being the dimension of emotional intelligence and the control of emotions the one that costs them the most, together with strategic thinking”.
Lastly, the three members of the commission agree in emphasising that the Nursing Leadership project is not only showing positive results in the training of students, which will be announced in future scientific articles, but has also reinforced the union and commitment of the teaching team of the Degree.
